Mission Statement

Island Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc. provides state-of-the-art prosthetics and orthotics to our patients; in the communities in and around Whidbey Island, Washington; which recognizes the inherent human worth and dignity of all persons, and to make our programs and services available to all without restriction; to create a healing environment where clinicians and staff work together to provide personalized care; and to operate in an ethically and fiscally responsible manner without compromising the patient and patient care needs.

Our staff is professionally trained and brings over 30 years of combined experience to Whidbey Island.  We will strive to give you the best possible service - from the initial consultation, assisting with your insurance, and care beyond delivery.

David E. Mathews, LCP

David E. Mathews is a state licensed and American Board Certified Prosthetist.  He is a 1990 graduate of the University of Washington, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics.

Since graduation he has been employed full time as a Prosthetist.  Dave was the clinical director for a non-profit organization that provided modern prosthetic rehabilitation to amputees in developing countries, primarily Vietnam.

Dave has trained approximately one hundred Prosthetists here and abroad to use computer assisted techniques, and has served as an auxiliary faculty member at the University of Washington.

Robert Travelstead, CP, LPO

Robert Travelstead is a state licensed and American Board Certified Orthotist & Prosthetist.
Robert is self employed in Bothell and comes to Whidbey Island weekly to care for our local patients orthotic needs.

Nichole Lukens, CMBS (Certified Medical Billing Specialist)
Office Manager
Post-Mastectomy Patient Care

Nichole has worked for Island Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc. since July 2010. She started out as a part time receptionist and worked very hard to learn everything about the front office. In January 2011 Nichole was promoted to Office Manager.

After work Nichole attended classes to earn a Certificate in Medical Billing. She completed her program in August 2012 at Everett Community College.

Carole joined our team at Island Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc. in October 2016. She is the voice you will hear when calling our office and the friendly face you will see when you come to our check-in window.Carole will be here to walk you through the check-in process and answer any questions you may have.
